Slots in the City’s TA71S ‘proxy-dev’ McLaren MP4-12C GT3
In an effort to get more TA71S cars out and on racing grids (especially when I can’t attend races myself!), I came up with the idea of shipping pre-built kits out to racers across Europe for them to tune up, compete with, and report back about – ‘Proxy-Development’, if you will.
It helps us speed up the development work we do for The Area71 Slotcars by having more drivers in more countries testing more setups on more tracks!
Using some of the high-quality decals available from MTR32.com, this TA71S McLaren MP4-12C is finished in the Gulf Marine #23 livery entered by United Motorsports in the 2012 Macão GP, and it will be competing in the inaugural DiSCA GT Euroseries race at Manchester in July 2016 – the race should be a good test of an ‘off-the-shelf’ TA71S 3D-printed MP4-12C kit and GT Euroseries components pack and, in the hands of Phoenix SC’s Ben Brown and Doug Bonnell, we’re looking forward to seeing how it compares against the more bespoke Nelwan/Skipp TA71S Bentley also entered, as well as the other GT3 models from more mainstream manufacturers…
…testing has already proved very encouraging and, as feedback and photos arrive from the boys in the UK, they’ll be posted here so that the page builds into a full report covering the build, testing, and the race itself.
From myself and Marco, best of luck to the Phoenix boys in the race – it certainly looks like it’s shaping up to be a fun event for all concerned, and we look forward to taking part in future rounds as the series develops.
The TA71S team followed the UK race anxiously from the UK and from Italy… constant updates from the drivers proved to be very exciting, revealing that that the maiden race of our TA71S McLaren MP4-12C was going impressively well.
Despite limited testing and preparation time, Ben and Doug were able to not only qualify well against some tough competition, but also worked well as a team to take podium finishes in both races – third place overall, with an impressive trophy to take home in commemoration their performance in this fantastic new series. Well done, guys!
