Last year, NSR created quite a stir when they announced that the Corvette C7.R and McLaren 650S cars would be the next releases in their popular GT3 class.
But, while we’ve enjoyed seeing many encouraging previews, presentations and prototypes of their Corvette at various stages of its’ development, progress on the McLaren project has always been suspiciously conspicuous by its absence, having never been presented publicly as anything more than a series of photos depicting the 1:1 car.
So it came as no real surprise when, earlier today, NSR Slot announced the sad news that they have had to abandon their 650S project, and it will not be manufactured. As for why, NSR indicated that the high cost of the licence fees requested by British marque McLaren is the reason behind their decision to abandon the project.
Although disappointed not to be able to produce what is highly regarded as one of the most beautiful GTs of recent years, all is not lost – NSR have hinted that a new model of a more ‘classic’ nature is being planned as an alternative.
